Is AeroLab a school?
AeroLab is a blended education center where students will be challenged to apply the knowledge and skills learned in their regular classes to new and exciting hands-on projects. That means students will need to be up-to-date on classroom assignments and other work as well as prepared to use their skills in subjects like math, science, history and English.
Students and parents must complete core academic requirements on their own. AeroLab does not fulfill the regular education requirements as mandated by the Colorado Department of Education.
What does AeroLab cost?
5th Day is offered at no cost to middle school and high school students enrolled in their local public school district. Funding is provided by a federal 21st Century Community Learning Center grant.
What is the schedule?
The schedule depends on your location and will follow your local school district’s academic calendar from September thru May including holidays and spring breaks. 5th Day students meet one day per week during the regular school year on Fridays.
In addition to 5th Day activities, AeroLab instructors will provide academic support on some days after school as well at parent groups on one evening per week. MakerStudio DIY mini-camps will be offered one Saturday a month for students and families.
Master calendars will be available soon.
When do students meet?
5th Day on Fridays usually run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and students attend either a morning or afternoon session depending on the schedule at your site.
5th Day is designed to be a comprehensive exploration of learning from basic instruction to assembling, building and demonstrating the performance of their projects. Each project will require active participation on a regular basis for students to complete. Outside of emergency situations, students are expected to attend all 5th Day sessions throughout the year.
What are the class sizes?
Each 5th Day session is generally limited to 25 students to allow instructors to offer personalized instruction and additional one-on-one coaching when needed. 5th Day is not grade-level dependent so may include students of different ages. Middle school students will be grouped with other middle schooler’s and the same for high school students.
Does my child receive a grade?
Every student will succeed!
5th Day is competency-based education where mastery replaces grades and tests. Instructors will help students practice the skills needed to make their projects the best they can be. Instructors will not expect students to be experts but will encourage them to do their very best work and try hard.
Can 5th Day be used for elective credit?
There is a possibility that participation in AeroLab may be used toward elective credit in future years. Contact us if you want to explore this option and we will work with your school to see if this is a possibility.
What is the curriculum?
The AeroLab curriculum is designed in cooperation with the school district partner. Each site offers its own unique schedule. Students enrolled in 5th Day are responsible for fulfilling their other academic requirements.
Space is limited and spots are available on a first come, first served basis. Registration is confirmed when paperwork has been finalized by the AeroLab registrar. A waiting list will be available when rosters have been filled.
Who are the instructors?
5th Day instructors are teachers and professional experts in their career fields. All have been background-checked and fingerprinted in compliance with Colorado Department of Education requirements. Small class sizes create opportunity for relationship-building and personalized instruction to meet the individual needs of students. Our highest priority is to welcome each student into our culture of excellence. Meet the Team!
